Hello, this is my first post .

I’m currently caring for my dad, he has spinal mets from myeloma. He’s on alot of pain medication taking oxy liquid and tablets but it’s not really keeping the pain at bay for long. I’m worried about the hallucinations he’s been having over the last few days , started with crazy dreams where he would tell me about them but now he’s starting to confuse reality with the dream. He woke me at 4 this morning in the kitchen with my coat in trying to get out side because someone was there. He’s not supposed to go down the stairs with out me to help him, he struggles to Walk about usually. Does this sound like the drugs talking or is there now a problem with his brain? I never seem to stop worrying what’s happening now!

Im starting to think I can’t do it anymore, he came out of hospital weeks ago and I said he can’t possibly look after himself at home so he came to us ‘for a while’. Generally doing everything for him ; washing ,meals, medication. He can’t really leave the house as he’s in too much pain to walk for more than a few minutes.

I think I’m just so tired.

  • Hi

Welcome to our community, I hope you find it useful.

Has your dad had a needs assessment and you a carers assessment - see here as that should highlight what support is available to you both to support him at home.

With my parents they had carers to support them for some time but as time went by and they needed more they moved to warden based accommodation and in my dad's case eventually to a high needs care home.
