My husband has stage 4 rectal cancer that was successfully removed in Oct but returned 6 months later in bladder and a few ribs. It’s now no longer curable. His oncologist has recommended FOLFIRI but also Avastin. I nearly choked when he gave us the cost of Avastin. Just wonder if anyone has any experience of this drug as he says it’s not always successful.
Hi A48
Sorry nobody has picked up on this yet, not something we have had any experience with so cannot really give you an answer to your question.
It does sound like a very difficult position to be in. I wonder if any of the nurses on the helpline has any information that might be helpful - you are welcome to ring 0808 808 0000 anytime between 8am and 8pm,
<<hugs>>

My husband had this while we were living in France where we didn’t have to pay. It seemed to e be very effective with the folfori. The oncologist there was very keen for him to have it and believed it made a real difference. We knew we wouldn’t be able to have it when we returned to the uk. The uk oncologist was quite dismissive and it isn’t supported by nice. It does have side effects and blood pressure has to be carefully monitored. It got tricky as his blood pressure used to go up every time he was going for treatment.
