Mums colon cancer diagnosis

Good morning, a week ago (6/1/24) my Mum went for a colonoscopy and they told us she has a 6cm tumour in her ascending colon. We were in complete shock, in all honesty we thought she had IBS. Since being told this news at 5:30pm on a Saturday eve we’ve heard nothing. A little background, Mum has had unintentional weight loss so went for a CT scan. They found a nodule on her lung and thickening on her bowel. We have been so worried about the lung (she’s a smoker) and not the bowel. It kind of feels like it’s not real!? My heart is breaking and we just want to know more. Sorry for going on, I’m just in limbo. X

  • Hi  Hope you don’t mind me replying but I was just passing through this board and noticed your post. I help out on the bowel cancer board and wondered if you’d like to join us on there as well - you could copy and paste your post for ease?

Hopefully your mum will hear something this week? Once the full results of the colonoscopy are back then the MDT (multi disciplinary team) will discuss her and the specialists involved will decide on a treatment plan and meet with your mum. It may well be that the nodule on her lung is a metastasis from the bowel cancer - this is different to lung cancer - and there are treatments available such as chemo and resections.

This waiting for updates is very stressful but please stay away from google - it can be scary and out of date - stay on here and once there is a treatment plan in place then things will honestly feel a bit better?
