Care at home

Partner may be coming home tomorrow, discharge after hip op. We have some worries about how comfortable he will be in bed as the "good" hip hurts sometimes. Physios advised toilet frame, hope that's sorted. Told Orthopaedic consultant/team can get comfort in hospital bed so they said they'd speak to therapy team. Not heard from maxillofacial team re swelling in mouth that this team passed on. Has oncology consultant appointment on Monday which zi'm really worried about. Skin cancer nurse told him immunology is only treatment for his cancers, secondary bone so we know that but worried on full prognosis consultant. The prospect of pain worries me the most.

  • Hi

The hospital should ensure a care plan is in place before he is discharged and that includes things like making sure there is a toilet frame etc. When Janice was discharged after a serious hospital stay our local authority visited, delivered toilet frame, bed lever fitted a new banister for our stairs and grab rails in the bathroom.

Does sound like you have a lot on at the moment so not surprised you have these worries. Pain is something that can be controlled but it can be a difficult balance as it can leave people feeling numb or sleeping more than ever and for some people pain can be seen as reminding us we are still here.

Fingers crossed for Monday and hope things fall in place with you - if you have any urgent questions do remember you can ring the helpline.

    <<hugs>>
