My husband was diagnosed last March ‘21 and since the end of this January he has gone downhill fairly rapidly. Secondarys we’re found in February and despite a few rounds of chemo (2nd type) the cancers has spread throughout his body. The last few days he has not been able to eat anything at all and only has sips of water. His blood oxygen sats are very low and he’s going onto oxygen tomorrow at home, along with a hospital bed. He did say not long ago that he didn’t want to pass away at home but in a hospice. This was to spare my feelings after he’s gone and I’m still living here at home. Now he’s very weak he has said he’d rather be at home and I just want him to be where he’s most peaceful. It’s going to be hard wherever. I’m in a waking nightmare of anticipation and grief. I’m hoping the oxygen will help him feel a lot more comfortable and less confused. It’s so hard.
Dear Suzi, I have just spent only two weeks with my husband at home in a hospital bed with a commode and rise/recline chair. My husbands appetite changed enormously and wasn’t eating anything apart from soft sweet things like ice cream and jelly or mousse. It is hard, we are not trained nurses or carers but we do it to make our loved ones able to stay at home where we want them to be so we can be with them for the time we have left with them. My husbands oxygen was also very low and his lung collapsed last Wednesday and ended up in hospital where he passed away on Saturday. It was hard having him at home, but I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. My thoughts and prayers will be with you during this difficult time. Jill
Thank you so much for your kind words Jilly, you have been through it too. I feel like I’m on the very edge of going down a really steep slide, just teetering on the brink. I still find it all quite unreal. You are so sweet, I really hope that you are bearing up.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
