Hi all- I’m caring for my mum during lymphoma treatment and tough as the chemo has been it’s her mental health that’s the most worrying. She’s always been very stoic and practical but she has had what I think is a nervous breakdown during diagnosis and treatment. She had really good scan news two weeks ago and chemo can now finish soon but she’s still so down and can’t seem to look forward. I’ve had to move in with her temporarily as she can’t be left alone at all as she has panic attacks. We’ve seen onco-psych who said it was probably just steroids and would lift but it isn’t. She’s lost all confidence and can’t do anything for herself. Has anyone else experienced this?
Hi
Sorry to hear about your mum, what you describe sounds not at all rare and can be quite difficult to see and deal with.
It might help to look at our guide on life after cancer treatment as it might give some insight in to how your mum might be feeling.
Remember too though that this has affected you as well, together you are entering a new stage in your relationship and it can be much deeper than it was before but it does take work.
<<hugs>>
Steve
