Hi all...new to this online resource! My mum is due to start chemo on Monday after having an operation for womb cancer before christmas. She is 70 years old and due to have 6 x carboplatin injections. I was wondering if anyone could share any tips/experiences and what helps and maybe what to expect tho I realise everyone is different! I am worried about how we will manage going out even for little trips with covid etc but also how sick them chemo is going to make my mum feel Thanks in advance :) xx
Hi ,
Sorry to hear about your mum and totally get your concern around chemo especially with covid still very much around.
Nobody knows exactly how an individual will respond to a particular chemotherapy but one thing for sure is that the doctors do not offer it unless they believe there is likely to be a benefit.
When Janice had chemo (not he same type or the same cancer) we took a degree of precaution about not getting too close to others and washing hands regularly - the sort of things that help to keep infections away but we also had a young school child in the house so never going to keep everything away. It is important to keep an eye on potential infection that might need stronger than normal antibiotics, other than that it very much depends on what your mum wants and often than will depend on how she feels. As carers it can be extra challenging to realise we need to support our loved ones in what they want to do.
<<hugs>>
Steve
