Hi everyone,

My husband was diagnosed with stage B bilateral liver cancer last Wednesday. Today he saw the oncologist and was told because he has 2 tumors the only options were for chemotherapy or immunotherapy which hopefully will manage the cancer but there is no cure.

My mother and father in law both died of cancer and my brother in law died 2 years ago from it. There is also numerous people on my husband's side who have suffered from it. I'm frightened to death of telling our adult children but I also want to tell them to have tests for genetic predisposition.

  • Hi and welcome to our community though sorry to hear about your husband and not at all surprised you are feeling overwhelmed. If we look at Your feelings when someone has cancer we can see how anyone would feel in this situation. My wife's cancer is totally different but thankfully chemotherapy managed to stop her cancer growing and we are now living with rather than dying from cancer.

I know it took some time for me to get my head around my wife's cancer diagnosis and I really struggled with how to tell my son too. One helpful source I found was https://www.macmillan.org.uk/cancer-information-and-support/diagnosis/talking-about-cancer and perhaps a key element in this is keeping the message clear. It means it would be helpful to discuss all the family history with them and then they can make their own choice of what they do next;.

    <<hugs>>
