My mum just had a diagnosis of stage 3 peritoneal cancer last Thursday. To be honest I didn't have a clue what or where the peritoneum is!!!
She has a tumour at the bottom of her stomach. Cancer cells at the top of her stomach and cells on her bowel.
She starts her chemo on Friday. She was told if she didn't have it she only has 2-3 months, which I can't get my head around as she's not ill. She doesn't look or feel ill. She has a slight discomfort...I cant believe looking at her that inside she's dying!! I suppose my question is how can I best support her and to remain strong for her.
Hi @heidi72 and welcome to our community though so sorry to hear about your mum.
In terms of what/where the peritoneum is and about this rare type of cancer this page from cancer research might help.
I very much can relate to the "not ill" comment. Sometimes people can go right through cancer treatment and nobody really realises.
Coming to you however, if only that "remain strong" bit was as easy to do as it is to write. We have some collected wisdom in Looking after someone with cancer especially the bits on remembering to look after ourselves.
<<hugs>>
Steve
