Hello everyone, my mum was very recently diagnosed with stage 4 Lung Cancer. Due to her frail health, she is unable to have chemo, but there is a possibility of radiotherapy. The consultant however, did say that the benefits might be minimal! As she is reasonably well at the moment, we have no idea how this illness is being to manifest itself going forward, and what we need to look out for with regards to her deteriorating! It's a massive responsibility and one I'm not totally equipped to deal with, as I know very little about it. I would be grateful for any "real people" as opposed to experts, experience and guidance. Thank you. X
Hello Dawnygs,
Welcome to the forum, I know it is not a place that you would have wanted to find yourself but this site is truly a great source of support and guidance and I hope that others will also be along soon to offer you some of theirs.
I am sorry to read that your Mum has been diagnosed with stage 4 Lung Cancer, this I am sure came as a terrible shock to you all, and then to be unsure of whether treatment will be available, is another blow! but you are more equipped than you know, you have started by reaching out to those who could help, you have realised that this is an area where you need more information and you are making the receiving of that information possible. I cannot promise that you will find all your answers, as for the most part, those of us who answer are not the experts in a professional capacity, and our experiences will be different to yours, but hopefully they will be relevant and be of some use to you as you help your Mum through this journey.
I don't know if you have already done so, but you could join the Lung Cancer Forum where others will have a greater understanding of signs and symptoms.. this will be a place to find many of your answers I think.
Please continue to write here and keep us updated not only on Mum, but on yourself also, as it is really important to remember you within everything else that is going on.
Cancer information and support is available via the link, and it will give you information on your Mum's particular cancer, and also on things you may need to put in place or benefits you may be able to apply for on Mum's behalf to assist with travel or other necessities.
There is also the Macmillan team who Mum may like to contact, the number is in my signature strip... people are on hand and here for you both. Thanks for reaching out.
Sending you strength
