Hi

I am caring for my elderly father who has bladder cancer. He has had it for 18 months and has now started to deterioate. I am his full time carer as he lives with us so I am always on duty. My main concern in this difficult time is to make sure he is comfortable but recently I have had to watch him live through worsening symptoms, he needs to use the toilet every 20 to 45 mins day and night and he loses blood every time so he is tired all the time. He is not receiving cancer treatment they are just treating his symptoms. I am constantly worried that I should be doing something more and feel I have been left to cope alone. I am not sure what to expect or what to look out for going forward.

I thought I would join this group so I can connect with others trying to cope with caring for a loved one with cancer.

  • Hi Pipkins61 welcome to the forum and that sounds as if it will be very challenging for you.

I wonder if you could pick up the phone and have a chat to your Dads GP as they should be helping out with your dad as well and maybe they could look at a catheter to save him being up and down like that which is distressing for you and him. It sounds like you may have slipped through the net for support and you need to get this in to support you both asap so pick up that phone and chat to the GP.

Please do let us know how you get on..
