So, I've woken up and it's not a dream

My soulmate was diagnosed with cervical cancer last week and it devastated us all. I'm about to step into my second job, as her carer. I know it'll be difficult for me, but I'm only too aware of what she'll be going through in the months to come. Reading through the posts here I'm filled with dread but at the same time, some encouragement: there's a lot of amazing people here looking after loved ones and I'm about to join the Club.

Other than the shock of the diagnosis itself, it's the feeling of being in free-fall. We've had the initial diagnosis but have no idea what stage it's at, where exactly it's spread to and what the prognosis is. She's had an MRI scan last week followed by a very quick chest x-ray and some fast-tracked biopsies. We've tried to get a better picture from her consultant but there are delays and there's a second MDT meeting next week (Wednesday). We're hoping for a definitive answer as to her position and the treatment.

We've both suddenly become acutely aware of our own mortality, and are determined to work together as a team to get her sorted. I'll post again when we get proper diagnosis, but right now i need to make plans and with nothing concrete I'm not making progress. See y'all later!

When you get to sit with the consultants either by video call or face to face (if they allow you in) have thought out questions written down, coz me it was a whirl of pictures on a screen big words being banded about, then I remembered my note pad in my bag and they answered all my questions honestly and in lay mans terms so I could understand. Big hugs to you all..

  • Thanks! Yes, the notepad is a really good idea -there's  been a few questions we've already missed. What really bugs me is that "thanks" to the virus I can't attend face to face meetings so I'm hoping for a video call next time as I'll also have questions. Thanks for the hugs - much appreciated Thumbsup

If its not a video call ask her to take her phone in and have you on loud speaker, so you can join in the conversation and ask questions that way..
