My lead up to my Chemo treatment has been fairly swift a scan two operations in 6 weeks and now chemo.
I have nothing but praise for everyone at Blackpool teaching hospital for the care and treatment I have received.
I have had my first chemo drip today of Oxaliplatin. I was quite rightly given a huge list of side affects to watch out for. Which I can only imagine would scare the pants off of any deeprhinking person and I will admit that I was quietly nervous.
That said the 3 hour sit went quite fast and I was fine. No problems to worry about and if it did therefore fantastic nursing staff around constantly to help.
I left with a slightly swollen hand and a tingling sensation nothing else.
Tomorrow I start on the capecitabine Accord tablets for 2 weeks before a week off and the 3 week cycle starting again.
I am sure I will get some side effects at some point but will tackle those as and when I need to.
Compared to some of the posts I have read I have had a very easy time during this period. But we are all different and I sympathise greatly with you all and your own personal journeys.
All I can say is stay strong and optimistic if you can. Seek help whenever you feel you need it and see it through.
Good luck and I hope for a healthy future for you all
Paul
Hi PaulM I see it’s your first post so a very warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but so sorry to hear about your journey to date.
I know from experience having been on my cancer journey for over 26 years with two very rare, hard to treat types of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphomas (one incurable), Asbestosis and Prostate Cancer that navigating this journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but talking with and getting support from people who have walked or are walking the ‘exact same' journey can help a lot.
I see that you have joined our dedicated……
Bowel (colon and rectum) cancer
…….. support group.
This group is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
