  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to hear how scared you are about your treatment starting shortly. Could I suggest that you post your worries in the eye cancer group, which I can see you've joined, as I'm sure the people in that group will be able to support you through your treatment.

Whether you decide to tell your family about your cancer is a personal decision but it can be difficult to know what to say to people. Macmillan have produced this information on how to talk about your cancer which you might find helpful. It also has a section on how to talk to children if your children are not adults.

It's completely understandable that you're also worried about not being able to work and worrying about finances is the last thing you need to be doing when you should be concentrating on your health. Macmillan has lots of information to help you with your finances and you might like to start by taking a look at this information.

You can also call one of the trained Welfare Rights Advisors (Monday-Friday 8am-8pm) or Financial Guides (Monday-Friday 8am-6pm) on 0808 808 0000

When you feel up to it, it would be really useful if could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
