Hi there,

I am looking for advice to gain help decide a relatives further treatment. She has Epithelioid Mesothelioma and has two tumors residing in her stomach. Having exhausted chemo options which have been very aggressive on her body and therefore quality of life we are looking at deciding whether a radioactive trial could be a good option. The trial uses Thorium 227 and is being run at the Royal Marsden. I wondered if anyone has an experience or general advice and could answer some of my questions about radioactive antibodys.

1) What is the side affects of these types of treatments

2) must it be done in conjunction with chemo

3) If the antibody radioactive molecule doesn't bind to the tumor what happens? If it decays in the body elsewhere what happens?

Many thanks,

Chloe

  • Hi and welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to hear that your relative has epithelioid mesothelioma but it's good news that she might be eligible for a trial.

Although I can't answer your questions I noticed that your post had gone unanswered so thought I'd see if I could offer any suggestions. It might be a good idea to join the mesothelioma group and post your questions there as there may be people who have been on this trial.

To join this group just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then copy and paste your post from here into a new discussion there after selecting 'start a discussion'.

You could also post your questions in ask a nurse and one of the specialist cancer nurses will aim to respond within 2 working days.

When you have a minute it would be really useful if could pop something about your relative's journey into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
