Members of the Online Community have shared how helpful getting outside and walking has been for their mental health and wellbeing, even if it’s only a few steps around the garden or a few quiet moments in nature.

This thread is a space for anyone in the Online Community to share those moments. You’re welcome to:

  • Share when you’ve been for a walk or spent some time outside
  • Talk about how you were feeling before or after
  • Share encouraging thoughts or quotes
  • Post photos from your walk (while staying safe and not sharing identifying details)

There’s no pressure, targets, or competition. The idea is simply to encourage one another, share the small moments that help, and enjoy some of the wellbeing benefits that can come from fresh air, movement, and time spent outdoors.

  • Hello Lee (

I know what you mean about litter:

    * The car park for the Country Park near us always has empty "fast food" containers on the floor. People bring the food to the park - eat it and throw the wrappings out of the window - there are 4 bins within 50 yards!! The "Golden Arches" and other fast food emporiums should be forced to ask you for proof of name and address when ordering take-away food and print this on all the wrappings.

    * Why do some people pick up dog poo in a poo bag and then hang it off a bush or a tree?

Rant over - enjoy your walks - I've just come back from an hour with my hound and with the sum out it was a cracking walk.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi Millibob. I’ve been offered SABR as an option. I’ve got an appointment at the QE in oncology on Thursday at 9.45am, but I’m unsure what questions to ask & I don’t want to sit there like a dummy. My brother is coming with me. He has prostate cancer as well, but had hormone therapy & radiotherapy a few years ago. Hope u can get away in July. I did another walk today round Leasowes, but only 3 miles.
    Best wishes

    Andy.

  • Hello

Another welcome to the online Community although i am so sorry to find you joining us. I have been following your posts on the "Awake" group. There's plenty of great support there.

I wish you well with you 2 treatments - try and get out for some fresh air and some exercise, if you are up to it between treatments.

Do keep us posted as to your progress.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi Millibob. Yes dog poo hanging off trees disgusting. Like Xmas but you wouldn’t want a pick off that tree!!

    Best wishes

    Andy.

  • Hello Andy (

It's great you have your brother going with you. All questions are quite personal. I would be asking:

    * How many fractions of SABR will my treatment be, on what days and how long will each session take?

    * What are the risks to my bladder and bowel?

    * Do I have any preparation for each fraction. Diet and is it empty or full bladder and empty bowel?

    * Are there any short or long term side effects I should be aware of.

I hope this helps. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Thanks Brian. I’ll let u know how I get on. It’s just a consultation at moment.

  • Hi Millibob. Actually my brother had prostate cancer a few years ago & his PSA is really low. He had radiotherapy & hormone treatment. Leasowes is a the landscaped former home of a local poet, but he was quite well off for a poet. The main house is gone, but you can walk round the grounds. Best wishes Brummie69.

  • I enjoy being outside . I am doing bits in garden but get very tired

  • Hello

It's great you are getting out. It's not about what you can or can't do - it's making the effort.

We are all getting older and have our own cancers - but just getting out and about is good for the body and soul. I know what you are saying about being tired, fatigue is one side effect of my treatment.

    Best wishes - Brian.
