Members of the Online Community have shared how helpful getting outside and walking has been for their mental health and wellbeing, even if it’s only a few steps around the garden or a few quiet moments in nature.

This thread is a space for anyone in the Online Community to share those moments. You’re welcome to:

  • Share when you’ve been for a walk or spent some time outside
  • Talk about how you were feeling before or after
  • Share encouraging thoughts or quotes
  • Post photos from your walk (while staying safe and not sharing identifying details)

There’s no pressure, targets, or competition. The idea is simply to encourage one another, share the small moments that help, and enjoy some of the wellbeing benefits that can come from fresh air, movement, and time spent outdoors.

  • Morning!

The title of this thread says it all - just take each step as a win and each extra step or minute doing something you enjoy as a triumph!

When you do start the bathroom I would avoid quick drying paint though!!!!

    All the best

  • Thanks I already have paint just got to pluck up energy to do it when I have a break fro treatment

  • Definitely a small step.  Mowed the lawn for the first time.  Showed how unfit I've become, but felt so good.  We bought a small electric battery mower.  It is so easy to use compared with our petrol one.

  • HI Dylan, everyone

I was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer in October, and had surgery to remove my Thyroid in February.

Prior to my diagnosis, I would have walked, cycled and ran on a regular basis - walking and cycling every day, running 2-3 times a week, but the diagnosis kind of put that to the back. I restricted my exercise to daily walks, and am in the process of building up my cycling a bit more.

I have been off work since the end of September, and have not/will not be getting any treatment at this stage. I use the exercise as a way of keeping my head clear as well as keeping physically fit. I usually walk about 30 mins and then cycle for about 30 minutes each day.

  • So this is where I want to get back to once I am fit enough (but on Hormone Therapy for life so we'll just have to see how that goes!!). Kenmore Hill overlooking Kenmore and Loch Tay, Perthshire.

Oh - and I don't have that hair anymore - chemo sorted that out!!!

    All the best
