Members of the Online Community have shared how helpful getting outside and walking has been for their mental health and wellbeing, even if it’s only a few steps around the garden or a few quiet moments in nature.

This thread is a space for anyone in the Online Community to share those moments. You’re welcome to:

  • Share when you’ve been for a walk or spent some time outside
  • Talk about how you were feeling before or after
  • Share encouraging thoughts or quotes
  • Post photos from your walk (while staying safe and not sharing identifying details)

There’s no pressure, targets, or competition. The idea is simply to encourage one another, share the small moments that help, and enjoy some of the wellbeing benefits that can come from fresh air, movement, and time spent outdoors.

  • Totally understand getting a dog that needs less exercise. Makes sense as we get older. Our dog has slowed a little with age, he's almost 11 now.

  • Hi Laura

Getting out in the garden has really helped me. I’ve had a few years when I have not been able to do any gardening but this year has been lovely getting back out there. It really is my happy place. Hopefully the weather will still allow us to get out there during the winter!

  • Hi Lin0506,Your path is looking great.I love gardening too.I moved back in February and my new garden is much more manageable than the previous one.I’m looking foward to doing more outside it’s so beneficial for mental and physical health.Love Jane x

  • Hi Lin

Oddly I had ignored the garden before this episode and now it is so nice and I am still here for Chris. I went to buy pansies and spent a fortune on other plants too.

I really appreciate little things too especially in nature.

Cold water swimming is my other go to. Yes bonkers but very good at resetting my nervous system.

  • New to this but lovely to reach out to folks navigating similar emotions.

I am a cold water swimmer any other cold water swimmers in the chat.

Yes its bonkers but my goodness what a total reset. In a lake surrounded by nature.

I have never gone and thought why after, a lot of whys at the time now the temp is dopping x

  • Hi Laura cold water swimming looks amazing but not for me I don’t think…I find it cold enough just getting in to the local baths! There is a group on the cancer chat forum called awake and up all night. There are some lovely people regularly chatting there in the middle of the night. I occasionally am on there in the night however the banter carries on throughout the day. May be worth you having a look.

  • Hi Lin 0506. Don’t fancy cold water swimming either, but I’ve heard that it’s very good for you. I’m got prostate cancer, but I’ve had SABR radiotherapy though waiting to see the oncologist in March next year. The awake & up all night group will be a great comfort for people. I’ll have to see what my appointment reveals in March.
    very best wishes

    Andy.
