Members of the Online Community have shared how helpful getting outside and walking has been for their mental health and wellbeing, even if it’s only a few steps around the garden or a few quiet moments in nature.

Hi all
Yes it is back to normal in Scotland!! Lovely morning in Aberfeldy but we have just had thunderstorm - and it has not cleared the air, really muggy..
Best haggis I have had is from the local butcher in Aberfeldy - aptly named McDonalds! ( they do good burgers as well!!)
enjoy the weekend all.

I love walking it makes me feel independent the sea air invigorates me and helps me relax and feel a bit normal helps me forget I’m just the woman with cancer. I try to do my usual 10000 steps but find since starting immunotherapy treatment it’s not as easy as it was and that upsets me and reminds me what is happening to me but I carry on because I love walking
Hi Susiebo
Could’nt agree more! Walking in nature is so freeing, the mind can just go blank or wander - and it does help me to forget as well. I managed to keep up my steps (most) through chemo but it was difficult- but that is the good thing isn’t it, our fighting spirit!!!
wishing you all the very best

Hi Susiebo I agree walking is so beneficial. I have extensive bone mets with lots in my spine which is the most painful. Walking my four dogs everyday really helps with the pain. We are lucky enough to live near a beautiful woods and a railway walk and a canal. Walking listening to the birds and using the Merlin bird app is so relaxing. I try and keep active everyday, if I sit down for too long it gets very painful. In the woods I can forget I am the woman with cancer too. Nice to leave it behind for a while.

Good morning, everyone
Things have cooled down significantly over the past few days. Were you able to enjoy a bit of time outside over the weekend?
Hi Dylan - most invigorating day outside on Sunday, was up at Crieff Hydro adventure park for my grandson’s 8th birthday party- very blustery but dry, stunning scenery and a very happy birthday boy!
Scotland has so much to offer! Am in way back to Midlands now though…
Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.

I am in Brisbane Australia so we are in winter. It’s about 20C here. I walk everyday with my 2 dogs which grounds me after losing my husband. We often go through the bush behind our place. Lots of birds.
This is a great thread. I'm very lazy about going out for walks and also a bit scared too as a woman walking alone. Recently found a cut-through (a "jitty", as we call it round here) off my estate to the main road, otherwise it is a walk through the woods. I can walk to the One Stop and back again in 20 mins. Maybe not the healthiest thing, as I'll probably buy a chocolate bar, but it'll get me out. Will get the Birds app too.
Today I took my 2 dogs through the reserve just near my place. This reserve is in Queensland Australia and is close to the beach. Here is Barley my cavoodle bouncing along having a wonderful time. There is so much birdlife in the reserve as well as kangaroos. The kangaroos don't appear very often though. I find the birds and soft breezes comforting.
