Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • It is hard, difficult and can over take many hours and days.

It is trying to find something which can help lessen the effects of the anxiety and worry. Which is why I suggested mediation or a scent. It does take practice and trial and error, to find the mediation to suit you perosanlly. You could start simple with 1o mins or 15 mins. It does help even for a short time to allow the brain to focus on something different.

Sounds like your GP is being helpful and will hopefully give you some support when they call back. You are doing a big thing and speaking openly about this in a group is not easy either and that takes courage. So thank you for sharing with us. Brian offered some great suggestions to. Happy to message anytime and there is many people in these forums who are and have been in similar situations to you.

    Hope this give some comfort.

  • Good morning, Gill.

I had a wonderful chat with Brian yesterday. He is so lovely and it was nice to hear about the role. So I am going to email next week and get the ball rolling...eek never thought joining this type of support group would potentially lead to me being a champion. So thank you to those behind the scenes for noticing my responses of support.

Scent is been shown to lessen anxiety and relax the mind. I tend to spray my favourite scent when going to appointments and then the scent calms my brain a little and makes me feel more comfortable.

You can even spray it on a cloth or tissues when out then a quick sniff helps your brain associates the smell with calm and comfort and confusing it for a couple of minutes...

I hope the appointment goes well today, so tell him big smiles and thumbs. xx

  • Thank you Jamie, and I'll spray scent on a hanky to take with me. It's not a taxing appointment but I envisage a finger wagging dragon having a go. Probably unfounded but that's how my crackpot mind works!

Great news you've decided to take up Brian's offer and I'm made up for you. I'm sure I've called you champ before but now it'll have meaning. Have a smashing day champ Trophy xxx

  • Give it ago. It does have some positive results. Well here is hoping they are understanding and caring which is how it should be.

I decided after speaking with Brian, I have nothing to lose but a lot of support to give. If I can help and make things easier for those going through these difficult and often uncertain times. Then doing it has a team can only make it an even better and a more comforting experience for everyone. I am so blessed to have been asked and I am truly humble to those who may have gotten something out of my support and the many others in here too. We are team!

We all bring different things to the table which makes feasting more supportive as we take little bits from everyone. xx
