Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • Hi Sarah. If you're having trouble sleeping, I'm wide awake love if you fancy a chat. Big hugs xxx

  • I’m here wide awake Gill! I actually nodded off on the sofa this afternoon so now I’ve been in bed for a while not feeling like sleeping!

  • Same here lass. I conked out earlier and it's done the same for me. I put on a horror film, Late Night with the Devil, about a washed up 70s TV host with a cheapo chat show called Night Owls. Ironic eh? Would putting soothing music get you off maybe? If you're going to visit OH later today, you'll need some sleep sweetheart xxx

  • I’ve put on Father Ted on the iPad to get something to distract me…I’ve taken my pills so that might make me conk out suddenly! I’m not usually good with horror films on my own..but I did watch The Heretic the other night and was ok.

I got a message this morning from my closest friend, up in Scotland, to say she has done a Morrisons order online which will be delivered tomorrow morning. Wasn’t that kind of her? So you’ll be relieved to know I’ll have something nice to eat!

Have you had a good day Gill?

  • I'm very pleased to hear what your kind friend's done. Well done that lady!

Yes, our day's been good thanks, and hoping for more of the same today, but I worry for you - after all you've been through, you've got this now. It's so unfair, but I'm praying OH gets better as soon as possible and on the mend. I'm also hoping Father Ted sends you to the land of nod so you can get a few hours in. I've never watched it but believe it's a comedy show. You probably won't feel like laughing but just zone in and maybe zonk out. Here's hoping...

  • Yes, Father Ted is comedy so it’s nothing I need to concentrate on. I’ll be fine here..I’m sure my friend will have ordered some cartons of soup which she’ll know will be easy for me to heat up. I can’t stand or get about the kitchen very easily so I never cook nowadays.

I did some  housework stuff today and I’ve got the washer loaded so I’ve been busy enough. OH was messaging but just wanted to sleep today. This whole thing has been exhausting.

  • I know love, and I really feel for you. This time last year I spent three and a half months here alone, with four bus rides every day to see my OH in the hospitals, but I didn't have the dreadful issue if being disabled. I doubt I'd have coped to be honest. I wish I could help you personally, but please don't overstretch yourself as you can only do so much. Damn your in-laws for being useless, which I'm also familiar with. I'm back to wishing I had a magic wand my lovely xxx if you want to try for some rest, you do that love xxx

  • Oh my goodness what an exhausting time you had to deal with. It’s amazing you coped with all that travel, but you do all this when you’ve got no choice.

I will go slowly-no choice-and plenty stops for a rest! i always knew it would be difficult if I ever had to manage on my own-I can’t even have a shower on my own-but just got to keep going and not be causing any extra worry. This isn’t about me.

Anyway, I’ve watched 3 episodes of Father Ted, so that’s enough for one night! I’ll say goodnight Gill and hope you’ll get off to sleep yourself soon.

  • I'll try but no sleep in me yet. Anyway, night night hon, and I hope you drift off soon. You know this night owl is always on stand by when you need a chat xxx

  • That's a lovely thing for your friend to do.
