Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

Welcome to the online Community from me too - although I am so sorry to find you joining us. I wish you well with your 2 scans and hope you get a treatment plan sorted - once you have this you can make plans for the future.

Here's a link with some information that may help with the children:

    Talking to children about cancer.

One of the best pieces of advice is make sure you tell their school or collage.

Keep talking to this group of people - they are around 24/7 and offer some amazing support considering they all have their own "issues".

    Best wishes- Brian.

  • Sorry you had power cuts, what were you reading?

Hope you're ok today. Mind you in the news they say we should get emergency kits and wind up radios...perhaps we need to dig out torches maybe we will have those power cuts as we did in the 1970s those old enough to recall x

This is for Gill, If we have power cuts and wind up radios at least we can all be dancing in the dark if our dodgy joints are up to it !

If it comes to all that perhaps we will be breaking out the brandy lol Laughing

  • what were you reading?

A Forget me Not Summer. Historical novel set before/during WW11. Easy reading.

We do have a torch ready, it's usb rechargeable as we sometimes have power cuts in the winter.

The Irish government sent us all a booklet about this a month ago. But living in a rural area I am well used to power cuts and also have all my camping gear for the times I stay overnight at a dog show at the venue with no electricity.

Sorry to hear this, I was diagnosed in March and have just finished 6 months of chemo/immunotherapy. I live alone and have no family in this country, and no "official" support outside the hospitals so it's hard.

This resource has been invaluable for me - so jump in and ask anything, share your worries, your stories, anything.

  • Morning everyone.

Brachytherapy nearly 2 years ago now for Prostate cancer and they didn’t mention the BEING UP TO PEE EVERY HOUR AND A HALF for months side effects a year later. Just the “ You’ll be back to normal and do the 3 monthly PSA tests to keep an eye on things. Im absolutely shattered this morning so thought I’d give this a try if anyone else is going through it. Any thoughts on the best sleep tablets that don’t give you bad side effects ive tried half a tablet at a time and it still makes you feel like 10 cups of coffee the next day. If not tablets any other health pills or things you’ve tried that help might be good.

    thanks folks.

  • Morning folks. As very quick pop in as battery dying. Welcome  and
Ooh the sleepinteruptis pee. You sure you want to sleep through that? Joy

If you want to try the medication route that will be affected by any other meds and supplements you take.

Tell us a bit more about you and what you've tried.

Thanks for the good wishes, must plug in now.

    Cheers
