Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • Hi both

Totally agree with this, hubby's best mate who has similar cancer was being treated but its also spread to his throat and so hoping the treatment will be changed but they are awaiting scans.

I've had a rough few weeks as my uncle died but at 91, but going to his funeral probably didnt help me settle down much.

But the counselling it should be easier to access.

Why its been tough is realising hubby had his brain effected by a chronic vitamin D deficiency and several things even doc didnt seem to pick up on, only in a catch up conversation after he'd passed.

But be aware others, that vitamin D issue can be hidden good to get blood tests.

I've been sent for bloods again but l think most of it is grief. But am ok.

Thinking of everyone, stay strong, still I'm the night owl though have been walking at night to see bats in the park.

It really is like Scooby Doo in our park with the bats and they are so tiny...piperstrills not sure if l spelling that right..

    Sending hugs x

  • My city hospital has a MACMILLAN hub and I haven't checked recently but one of their services used to be access to counselling, for anyone affected by cancer, so loved ones too. This was in addition to local service provision.

It can be a bit confusing depending on your locality. It can seem like you are applying to a particular provider's counselling service but are actually just being funneled to one common waiting list. Service providers may have been allocated a geographical catchment area, cover particular GPs etc.

Sadly counselling often has an urgent need without a rapid or even timely response. Most people then access generic low level support. This is commonly delivered in 6 sessions.

The package is nothing to do with an individual's needs and a lot to do with cost and resource allocation.

I liken it to a box of size 6 shoes... terrific if you are a size 6.

Apart from one to one counselling, there are  other forms of support that work well for some and which may have a shorter wait time, such as group counselling, cancer groups, ill health groups etc

    Cheers

  • Spellt lol, spell checker, thinks maybe we could all have American Indian animal and nature names to boost morale after seeing bats l feel like l could be of course dingbat stands with fist .

I was told the American Indian names they really have, protects them and are connected to nature, l think they are right and we can learn from that. Seeing the bats flying so free l felt a bit calmer...

Ukiboy could be Boy stands with Courage,

Gill could be Stands with Moonbeam  because she brings light to others who need her. And its usually at night all her flock hang about lol

    Xxx

  • Evening Dingg, and great to hear from you,  sweetheart Kissing heart

I've just got a new mobile so still very slow with it, but first hon, after all you've been through you're still going strong Muscle so flipping well done!

Dinggy,  vitamin D is an important one and you're bang on that it should be promoted and tested far more than it currently is. Hopefully your bloods will be fine hon, but if there are deficiencies make sure you get the necessary additives, or whatever your doc advises.

Watch yourself, walking in the park with all the bats and ghouls lurking and especially if you venture out on Halloween Jack o lantern can't be too careful out there hon.

Loads of love Heart️ to one of our favourite night Owl owls xxx

  • This so true what you've said, the system is rigid and hubby's friend and his wife are going through similar things we went through as the system is so rigid and localised.

Thinking of everyone going through things tonight sending hugs xx

  • Awe you've got me all moist eyed you were so poetic Grin

Great to see you. Umm are there others out on bat watch? You safe out there?

You got a local bat group? Safety in numbers etc

    Cheers

  • Thanks Gill

Yes good advice indeed. Though there are often quite a few folk out bat watching, the funniest was an old gent eating his sarnies and with a cup of tea on a bench !

Hope you and OH  are ok there.

Yes very shocked how much trouble the D vitamin can bring if deficient...

Also don't know if l mentioned health check my GP surgery does general bloods etc very worth while.

Have lost a stone in weight so having tests but its the last year being a carer and not eating properly. So guess thats another tip to us all, don't do what I've done and try and eat regularly ...

Sending hugs xx will try and get some sleep hoping everyone gets a little rest at least x

  • Aw Dingg, I'm so sorry for your friends and really feel for them. I hope the cancer hasn't gone to hubby's pal's throat as i know how tough it can be for all concerned. If ever needed you can ask me anything if it will help.

I absolutely love your Indian spiritual names for Uki and me, and find their culture fascinating. There's a lot more to it than meets the eye when delving down rabbit holes. I've nosied in the past and it's well interesting.

Always thinking of you hunny bun xxx

I have just woken up after one of my 'sudden d**ths' falling asleep in front of the TV. I have now staggered into my proper bed, but not sure how long I will stay awake. Sleeping

  • Thanks was just telling Gill bout the bat watchers and the owls out there too, surprisingly quite a few young people too but not everyone is glued to a mobile l guess.

Hope you are doing ok xx
