Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • Thank you Gill. You put everything into completing that job on time. Perhaps you need a while to recharge. Can you nibble anything or drink something soothing to ease the feeling? xxx

The situation is beyond that. On the plus side, an elderly neighbour I haven't seen for months called round yesterday with a box of Roses chocolates. Late last night I broke it open and ate far too many.

The current situation relates to another client where I suddenly can't login to their platform to collect and deliver work. This was supposed to have been fixed a couple of weeks ago but has gone wrong again. It is bizarre and I can't afford to get someone to fix it. The client has work for me which I need or I can't pay the bills.

I'm keeping my water intake up. Luckily, perhaps, I don't drink alcohol.

  • Happy Birthday , what a nice and practical birthday present from your daughter, just as it should be.

I'm pleased you're cheerful and have enjoyed your special day.

As you say, can't be bad!

  • Can you contact your client by phone to either muster some help with fixing the platform or explain why you are currently unable to receive or dispatch work?  It is tough to be weathering chemo/symptoms whilst also needing to maintain cash flow. xxx

They are in Italy, as is my other client. Too expensive to call, but I am in contact via email and they usually respond quickly. This happened after the platform was redesigned last month... now my fevered brain is wondering whether it was a clone or some other cyb*r attac* on my PC. None of the other freelancers are affected. But when I enter my details and the fields go blank, or revert to different credentials, or tell me some entries are wrong, it's simply bizzare. The company thinks the problem is at my end.

All this is in addition with much worse side effects from chemo and new meds although those should subside in a week or two.

  • If the financial side is getting critical because of the work platform problem, can any of the commitments be eased slightly to the right to give you breathing space? I sense that you are very resourceful, only lacking the energy to resolve these hiccups. I recall during my working days being in seemingly impossible situations regarding deadlines, available resources (me!) and the need to eat and sleep occasionally. I once worked on a large proposal document for a new product. It had to be on the desk of the interested company by midnight. I finished it mid afternoon after a pretty much non-stop week on it, proof read it twice, fixed what needed to be fixed by 10pm, then drove nearly 50 miles and delivered it to the night security people at the company in question by 11-45pm. I was a lot younger and did not have cancer but it was an exhausting task. I can appreciate what you are doing - later in life and with health problems. Well done for having sufficient drive to even consider doing what you are doing. I can only send virtual magic through the airwaves to dissolve some of your problems. Tomorrow may give you some answers. xxx

Your story about working hard to meet deadlines is familiar! Deadlines in this case are not the problem, the client is being flexible given my situation but if I can't access the files they will reallocate the work to another member of the team.

The earlier job is only part 1 of several batches: the rest will trickle through when they are ready, and that only involves emails so no issues.

  • MANY HAPPY GARIBALDI RETURNS RAY

A splendid present from your girl and wholeheartedly deserved.  Savour those biccies hon, just in case they were procured by contraband. I heard on the news a consignment had been smuggled into the UK on the back of a lorry. Keep it quiet.

Huge birthday hugs being delivered by DPD...expected time of arrival this time next year xxx Enjoy! XXX

  • Do you have the luxury of a back-up PC or laptop with the capability of running the platform? Can a known, working copy of the platform be obtained from a team member? I imagine there may be confidentiality difficulties if the software is very secure. Can you confirm with other team members that you are running the same version number of the platform? I'll not pester you further with questions as it may be better for you to take a deep breath, say 'Sod it,' have a sleep by kicking the staff out of your brain's worry department and sink into you pillow. xxx

  • Morning Gill Slight smile

Sorry you're having a rotten time of things lovely, but hopefully you'll be able to sort everything out and get back on track very soon.

This will have to be my last post for a few hours as I've still not got used to the phone and it's taking an age to type even quickies.

I'm going to attempt more sleep now so night to yourself and Ray and lots of hugs HuggingHuggingHugging xxx
