Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • Hi. It's been a little while since you posted so I am hoping you are managing to settle down and snooze. It may be tech trouble getting the site to work .

Either way I will say nyt. Do reach out again tomorrow, take care

  • Hi. Are you still around? Regarding your pain, there are people other than your GP who are very familiar with pain management and there may also be some non drug things that may help too.

I can't take ibuprofen due to its negative effect on stomach and I can't take anything in the opiate family as it seriously disagrees with me.

Other than anaesthesia, luckily I have mostly not had to find something more than paracetamol that works lately.

    Cheers

  • Shimmers, get your head down pet - I'm still trying to.

Chat later today, hopefully via a gleaming and spangly expensive new moby.

  • Hello ,

I'm very sorry indeed to learn of your problems resulting from your original diagnosis of lung cancer earlier this year.

Gill H suggested there are other forums you can join which might help you with information and advice from fellow sufferers. I'd like to suggest you first have a look at the following to connect with others in a similar situation:

    Lung cancer forum

    Secondary brain cancer forum

Another that might be useful for you is:

    Emotional support forum

In addition the Macmillan support line is available for you to talk things through with trained advisers should you wish to do this, click below to access details of what's available for you:

I hope some of these are able to provide you with the information, advice and support that you need. If you need anything more just ask and I'll do my best to help.

    With my best wishes, Derek

Back on the planet, but late to the party so I have some catching up to do while you are all asleep!

After a snooze after lunch yesterday (finally!) I staggered upstairs to the office, determined to finish and deliver the job I was working on. It was hard going but I pushed through it, finished at 7 pm after a rare burst of energy. Totally exhausted and in a state of near collapse, I dozed on and off in front of the TV, got something to eat at 10.30, fell asleep for an hour, then woke up enough to fall into bed almost fully dressed until 3 am with the overhead light and radio still on!

So relieved I have caught up on sleep, I couldn't function any more without it. Monday should be nice and quiet apart from a check-in call from a charity  where I have been on the waiting list for a while. Goodnight to any of you awake right now, I hope your Monday goes better than expected.

Now to get a few more hours in. Sleeping

  • Good morning Maria I hope you managed to get a little bit of sleep last night. You’ve been through the mill already with lymphoma bless you and then your injury. I love the name Tiggy for a cat. Keep chatting if you can and try joining the womb cancer group as well. I hope the pain isn’t too bad today.

    Sending hugs xxx
