Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • We had to cancel 2 trips abroad in our moho while I was having treatment but luckily only having booked the ferry it wasn't too much of an issue.

  • I'm off to Ayr next week, just 3 nights,

    Have a wonderful time.

  • We’ve lost about 10 holidays over the years because of my cancer, and then Covid, plus Thomas Cook going bust so you’d think we might have given up but we didn’t! Joy one of ours was a little trip over to Belgium on the ferry but I unexpectedly had to go for a biopsy under general anaesthetic and I was a bit wary of being on the ferry 2 days later so we just didn’t go.

The Maldives was always my dream destination, and it was amazing, but wheelchairs and sand don’t really work well together! Glad we did it though as it was beautiful.

  • The last time I went away was 2000 but I was helping to clear a house in Belfast so it was hard work. Before that it was 1993 to Scotland and the Lake District via Hull to see friends.xx

  • Gosh Jane, it’s been a long time since you had a holiday. I know you’ve had a lot of difficult years to get through, so I suppose it’s maybe not been a priority for you between caring for your mum and your own health. And now you’ll have a house move in the offing so that will keep you focused.

If money were no object would you want to go anywhere in particular or would you still not bother? If so, where would you like to go?

  • Hi Sarah,I like art and architecture so probably somewhere like Italy as I know I would love the food as well as the scenery.I love the sea as I grew up on the coast so somewhere coastal would appeal too.We never had a holiday as children but we did go on day trips when dad was alive.I have happy memories of him singing ‘The sun has got his hat on’ as he was driving us to the beach.xx

  • Gilly, I have a Panama hat, and do free trips to Bridlington, especially for friends.

    love Eddie and Sheila xx

  • I remember having the most delicious Strawberry tarts in Bridlington.I’m partial to them anyway but those were especially nice.Xx

  • Good choice! We didn’t have any holidays as children really-I just remember a couple and certainly not abroad. I love the sea too, and really miss it living so far inland now.

  • Aw, I know you mean that, so thank you Eddie xx We won't be going anywhere nice anytime soon.

This week we had physio Tuesday and exercise group tomorrow.  Next week clinic Wednesday, endocrinologist Thursday and exercise again Friday, at three different hospitals.  They never seem to stop and there's more coming up two weeks after that lot.  We'll be so glad to see the back of this year. Strewth.

We're happy to spend days off relaxing at home.  No doubt most of you guys had all this and still have, so you'll know how good it is to get time off for good behaviour.  I can imagine more on the cards from the endo appointment.

So, the holidays.  Last time I went abroad was with an ex and his two and me and my two, both a fair bit older than his.  This was in 1996 and we spent the whole fortnight arguing like cats and dogs.  At one point he got his bags together and was going to fly home with his kids, but they bawled their eyes out and he relented.  We were gutted as we'd got geared up to spending the rest of the holiday having a whale of a time.  The last half of the holiday was lousy and the atmosphere was heavy with spite.  A trip to forget.  OH and me had five days near Bridlington almost ten years ago but incomparable to the other as we had loads of fun and loved it.  That's my tale of two wildly differing holidays.

    Love Gilly xxx
