Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • Just nipping in to reply as I dislike ignoring posts hon. Oh, 2 more of yours popped up that weren't there previously when I last looked. Hamster Hamster time.

Yeah, OH is a-ok with everything that he needs doing whether it's a medical procedure or dental work. He always appears laid-back and amenable. I obviously don't know what's on his mind and he certainly can't tell me, but I've never had to physically push him out of the door on the way to an appointment, which is good. I never make a fuss either or pull worried faces, even though thoughts of catastrophic consequences are swirling round my head.

I'll have a root for the Spanish grannies doc and cheers for the butt-kicking reprieve.

    Back to the documentary now...

  • OH did at his last 3 appointments. I always get a ringside seat and love the noise the suction pipe makes! xxx

  • I am up awake about a comment my partner made I am hurting maybe being silly. So hard when had a double mactomy and I said my belly big and he said well you did have cheeses burger and I said what’s happen to my body and he was just quiet

  • Morning Me Two hearts

Oh dear hon, but let me say you're not being silly at all as your body has changed so you're bound to be touchy about any remarks, no matter how innocent they might be.

Just be kind to yourself and try not to take things to heart. Have you spoken to your partner about how you're feeling hon? Maybe he's feeling upset that he's upset you?

It's all still really new what you're going through, so you need to give yourself a break and plenty of time to get used to the changes.

Has your team already broached reconstructive surgery to you? I guess this will be a while off yet but have you had any thoughts about what your plans might be?

Now's probably a good time to brew yourself one of those soothing, magic cuppas before settling down again.

    Sending you hugs sweetheart xxx

  • I just feel like I don’t won’t him to see my body as he made a joke about my tummy I feel really like shut off to him now. As I all ready feel fat with no boobs I really start being kind to my self as men say things and really don’t mean them

  • Morning Me Blush

That's the ticket hon, and hey, men say daft things all the time so just let those drift over your head.

We've all got hang ups about our bodies whether we've had surgeries or just let them gone to pot, but here's something you might be able to chew on sweetheart.

My OH's surgery for his cancer is different to yours as it's not as outwardly visible, but he also had a part of his anatomy removed - his voice box as a massive tumour had grown on it. He's now unable to ever speak again and has many issues because of it.

What I'm trying to say is that yourself, him and countless others are all struggling to accept change from the norm and it takes an awful long time to come to terms with it. Meanwhile, us lot that live with them need to constantly mind what we say - that includes your partner and myself. The last thing we want to do is upset our loved ones with thoughtless remarks.

Don't worry about your bloke seeing you as you are as it's you, the person, he loves. I love my fella even though he drives me round the bend but I miss hearing his voice. That doesn't stop me from treating him as I've always done since we got together, so you carry on being ok with your partner and forgive him the occasional slip up.

Have you enjoyed a cuppa this morning sweetie? I haven't even put the kettle on yet and I've been up for ages, silly me. Yum

Now you try for a good day and enjoy some treats. Get your bloke to wait on you if he knows what's good for him! Hugs Hugging for you both xxx
