Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • Hi Geoff CBT isn't acupuncture. It's an acceptance therapy to help you understand and focus on the things that matter to you most, and when you can do that thinking about pain doesn't occupy your thoughts so much, and as 80% of pain is psychological and not real, and knowing and most importantly believing this, your pain burden diminishes accordingly, ACT, works alongside this. Useful to know when pain relief is not an option.

Awww to live by the sea, you'll have a few of the guys envious, and that's fab your hospice is so close as well, I'm afraid I'm a total dinosaur with tech, and other than here and W....app have nothing to do with things like that, but when PMs return, it would be good to have a look at your postings, and I  hope it won't be long before your ready to stretch your wings and get to those far off places soon.

  • Ah Geoff, don't ever be embarrassed about yourself - if you've got a talent then showcase it, that's what counts.

I love music, especially classical, and Debussy is a particular favourite for piano.  My eldest is classically trained on French horn, so knowing syncopation taught herself to play the piano when still quite young.  She's pretty good.

I've had a rethink about those chores - I've decided a deckchair on the beach would be more palatable.  Oh, and I'll have fish chips with bits on please!

Waits in anticipation for the above xxx

  • Hi Jane, Gilly has suggested you may like my Wonky donkey picture, it's yours my friend if you want it, and can you please tell me how to watch Geoff's video Pray

Thank you Jane! Did I send you a link or something? I honestly don't remember! My memory is so terrible, but for you to have seen my videos I must have sent you a link or explained how to find them.

I've just added a new one too.

Thanks again Jane.  Slight smile x

  • Hi Eddie,It’s really kind of you and Gill to think of me.I wouldn’t be able to home Wonky at the moment but I could when I’ve moved.I’m just changing things around here today and boxing up some items.I’m beginning to regret helping my partner John out by storing some boxes for him here.I didn’t realise back then he is a bit of a hoarder. He is trying hard to get sorted but he’s in a tiny bungalow and in poor health.I don’t think I’m allowed to put a link up to Geoff’s videos. He gave me the video address via private messaging. It would be easy to find if we were able to put surnames up here, very frustrating.Jane x

Hi Eddie. It's the ACT that I assumed was acupuncture, not CBT. I've heard lots about CBT before but as it's not medication of any sort, just a way of thinking, I don't see how it can work. I hear what you're saying about some of the pain being mental, but it a way of thinking really that powerful? If I start to get on-going pain again then I will look into it, as anything to relieve it would be worth trying.

I guess it can't hurt for me to give a clue how to find my videos. Moderator - Please don't ban me if this is wrong! Just go to Youtube and search for "explore with Geoff", Littlehampton, something like that. Look for a fat crazy middle aged man with not much hair and that's me.

  • I think you sent a link Geoff I can’t look back to check.Whichever it was I found them easily. The sooner the private messaging is back the better,it seems to be well used.x

  • That should work Geoff and surely not breaching any rules x

    Thank you Gill.  Slight smile

I love all sorts of music, from classical to jazz, even rap sometimes. I have a particular love for classic songs such as "Moon river" and "Wonderful world", played on the piano. I don't like the original versions much as the old recordings are awful quality, but modern covers can be incredible and very emotional. I've been trying to find how I can incorporate some of them in my Youtube vidoes but the licensing is complicated, and not cheap. I think that some well known tunes played and sung well would lift my videos SO much.

Oh that is amazing that your Daughter play the horn. Does she know any of the tunes from Star Trek? The theme from Star Trek, First Contact has some horn solos and is incredible. I just checked it out and it honestly gives me chills. I've played it myself on a keyboard using a VST (virtual instrument that uses audio samples of a real instrument to mimic the sound), and I love it. I miss messing with stuff like that.

You're not doing my chores any more?! That's MEAN! No deckchair for you until you've finished my dusting! Joy

  • Awww Gilly, one day you'll be able to go to the YB inn, it's a fab pub in a beautiful location, though I'm sure you have quite a list of places in mind to visit

I've sort of gotten used to my memory issues, the hardest part is remembering what people look like, if someone asks me I could give height, build and maybe hair colour but nothing else, I do recognise people straight away, but can say I don't for those we'd rather avoid lol, I dream all the time, and even in deep sleep I'm aware it's a dream and can influence it GrinningGrinning, but your far too innocent to know anymore, alas as soon as I wake up the dream is lost, all except one which I've had many times.

There's lots of things to celebrate my friend, we have to be thankful for what we have, and PS Geoff  your allowed to post pictures of yourself, hence my avatar.

    love Eddie and Sheila xx
