Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • Hello my friend, I read about your diagnosis, and was so sorry to hear it, having been through it myself, I understand what a difficult time this is for you, the uncertainty and worry is normal, as is knowing what to do or say or indeed feel, so please whatever thoughts or questions you are having, if you want to, feel free to share them with the guys on here, you will find friends who understand, will not judge, and I'm sure will be able to help you through the times to come, like they've helped me and many others before, a friend

  • Hi everyone, hope you’re all doing ok, my little update, 5 attempts it’s taken in total but the picc line is in! My arm is very sore! The vein they usually use was being very problematic… and the vein they usually avoid due to being problematic it went in perfect! Another typically me moment! But it’s in finally!

  • Crikey Chloe - you don't do things by half, but thank goodness it's now sorted.

How are you doing lass?  Is the treatment going ok or knocking you out?  Hopefully you're coping well and not getting too much in the way of side effects.

    Take care and hugs xxx

  • So far I’m doing well, 1 night of vomiting 2 days after my first treatment but I never felt nauseous so I didn’t take any anti sickness prior but I’ve been taking them regularly now to avoid feeling sick, the only other thing I’ve noticed is bloating, burping or feeling like I need to burp, but mint tea is helping, other that that just the veins being awkward but hopefully now that won’t be a problem going forward, how’s you and your other half doing? Xx

  • Hi Chloe and it's great to hear how well you're coping.  Yorkshire grit!

We're doing fine thanks lovely, got lymphoedema clinic in the morning but going for our dinner straight after - looking forward to that!  We're getting Sky on Thursday, just in time for the new season.  Steve was trying to wind me up about Man Utd winning the title this time!  I know it won't be us but still can't wait for a football fest that we'll now be able to watch.  Apart from VAR - I absolutely hate it, as it wrecks spontaneity.  What do you think about it?  xxx

  • Wow Chloe. A big well done girl, I  imagine that couldn't have been easy for you, I'm ok with, if at 1st you don't succeed try, try, again. But not  try, try, try, try, try, again, what a star, and I'm so pleased side effects are so manageable, you may find taking the anti emetics before treatment is more effective, as for the windypops, a couple of very slightly un-ripe bananas can can often help, well another Yorkie, we'll have enough for a football team, but don't tell Gilly. Best wishes with all your treatments my friend.

    love Eddie and Sheila xx

  • Hi Gilly, good luck for tomorrow my friend, I hope your appointment goes as well as we all hope it does and it's a celebratory dinner to follow, you both so deserve it. All this talk of football is making me feel tired lol, a 16th place finish will be a successful season. What is VAR? There's really no need to answer that. I took up barjello today, and enjoyed it, what's happening to me.

    love Eddie and Sheila xx

  • Goodnight Gilly and Chloe xx

  • Morning all-I’m back!

Sorry I had to disappear for a bit-I have ptsd and unfortunately it was triggered by a picture someone put up in the thread of an X-ray so I had to keep away for a bit until the chat moved on so I didn’t see it again. It means I can’t go back and catch up with posts unfortunately, but once I see certain pictures, I can’t unsee them, so I can’t take the chance of seeing it again as anything to do with scans or x rays affects me quite badly and every time I shut my eyes I see the picture again.

Anyway, hope everyone’s doing ok. I was at my gp last week for my own x ray results (didn’t ask to look at the images!) and he had good news and bad…which I didn’t like the sound of! Anyway, the osteoarthritis in both knees isn’t too bad, but it’s bad in my lower spine and left hip and very bad in the right hip. It’s actually completely gone now. Upped my pain relief and referral sent to orthopaedics.

My appointment actually came through on my app last night which is amazingly quick and only a month or so to wait to see the surgeon so that was fast! I’m not looking forward to more surgery, but a life where I can walk again would be incredible so I’m going to have to pull up my big girl pants and get on with it.

Looks like we’re in for some lovely weather so I’m always happy to be warm and see the sun, even though I can’t get out in it! Have a good day everyone.

    Sarah xx
