Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • Morning Gilly, I was lucky to fall asleep straight after posting Chloe, hence the late reply and, PS as I'm on 12 forums, I switched off my vibration/jingle alerts to posts, just getting a pop up so everyone can post me anytime without waking me up.

Wow  what you wrote about the radiographers, could have been written by me, they're just an amazing bunch of people.

Having RT for prostate cancer you have to have it with a full bladder, the problem with PCa is it causes urinary incontinence, so in the early days it could take up to 4 times to get through treatment but there was never anything other than 100% support and understanding, even when I went to have a catheter in one of the team came with me and stayed with me all the time, unfortunately as for some reason nobody's ever been able to explain as soon as I started to pee with the catheter in, I'd pop the balloon lol, it ended up taking 36 trips to the EBRT room but we never missed a day, absolute angels everyone.

We met a lovely couple from Chesterfield there, and  hubby was having a tough time of it, he was always hungry but couldn't keep anything down no matter what they tried, and I remembered from my time in healthcare, years ago someone going through a similar experience, and found a well known brand of cola helped, so mentioned it to them, and when I saw them the following day the difference was amazing, we found out we all loved quizzes, so had one at every RT session with most of the other patients joining us, strangely happy days and we're still friends, we meet up whenever we can.

Sorry to hear you've not managed a getaway since RT my friend, when your up for them, they will be extra special for you both, do you have a place in mind?, I'm sure you have 100s, we're doing as many as we can while we can, PS the Yorkshire wildlife parks lovely and only 2 minutes from our placeGrinning.

No appointments today so it's art group, friends, Yorkshire day at the hospice, then off to see the newest member of the family a 6lb little sweetheart called Chloe.

    love Eddie and Sheila xx

  • Hi Chloe, happy Yorkshire day to you and all the guys lucky enough to call this wonderful county home, I believe there are 5 of us, and I know none of us ever wants to go through this treatment, but Weston park isn't so bad, can I ask are you aware of Firefly, the WP cancer charity at the back of the car park or the canteen on level 3, their all so helpful should you need them. My kids mum and our eldest daughter got lots of advice going through their treatment from Ovacome, who have 2 lovely ladies, dedicated to hair issues, who were fab, we even managed to see them at one of their seminars ovacome.org.uk might be helpful my friend

  • Chloe, I'm just a wannabe Yorkshire person!  Happy Yorkshire Day!

  • Hey Steve-I like to think of myself as a honorary Yorkshire person, married to one that’s born and bred Yorkshire and living just over the border. All my cancer treatment and surgeries were done in Sheffield so I’m counting all of those things, even though I haven’t lost my Scottish accent yet!

  • Sarah, You can take the Geordie out of Newcastle.  I'll always be a Geordie but would rather live in Yorkshire!!!  That's not much to ask...is it?

    Steve (SteveCam)

  •   don't ever lose your Scottish accent!

  • Morning to our honorary Yorkshire lad!  Oh, another angel to welcome and Chloe's such a lovely name too.

Blimey Eddie, you've had some right tribulations to deal with but you certainly don't let them beat your spirits.  It's reading posts like yours that keeps mine up!  You're always so busy and I'm on nothing like twelve forums, but I do read many posts on others that aren't the same cancer type as my OH had.

We'd love to go to Bridlington but it won't be on the cards for a good while yet.  He's still got mobility issues and needs regular nebuliser sessions, so we couldn't go far and would need access to a socket and hot water.  Also no jalopy and a bit too much paraphernalia to cart around.  No matter as it'll be something to look forward to in the future.

I've got further forward with his PIP claim; I rang yesterday and told them he couldn't give his ID over the phone as they wanted.  Eventually, I stopped the agent in his tracks, telling him if they wanted concrete proof of his ID and condition, they'd have to get an assessor to see him.  I was put on hold, and when he came back was told an assessor would ring me and make an appointment for a home visit.  So, we'll wait and see.

Now you have a smashing day and enjoy the company of all the folk you'll meet.

Love to you and Sheila xxx

  • Morning Gill-that’s a good result getting someone to come to the house. How do they expect someone to speak on the phone when they can’t speak?

I got a little bit further forward with my pip too-got a text yesterday to say they received all my paperwork and to expect a reply within 8 weeks which is better than the 15 weeks I was told before.

  • I love the Geordie accent! My hopefully soon to be son in Law is from Durham, but I sometimes find he speaks too quickly for me to understand everything!
