Recently diagnosed and worried

hi there, it’s my first time posting and I hope I’ve done it right! I’m 41 years old and got diagnosed with stage 1 HER2 positive breast cancer in my right breast with no lymph node involvement in November, since then I started chemotherapy on the 20th December (EC x3 T - Docetaxol x 4) currently just had my 3rd and final EC yesterday which has been hard going at times but it does pass and it is doable. A couple of weeks ago they told us that an MRI I had shows liver mets which would now mean I’m stage 4. They’ve said they need to repeat an MRI again post cycle 6 to make sure- if the liver lesions shrink with the chemo then we will know it has spread but if they don’t then they will be declared ‘stable’ and be unrelated benign lesions that are common in people over 40- so now we wait which I have definitely found the hardest part of this journey so far, the not knowing has really sent me in a downward spiral. This news has absolutely floored us all and I’m terrified. I don’t want to leave my children or husband behind, and the thought of it has really scared me and left me pretty much numb. I just wondered if anybody else has had a similar experience to mine? How has it been for you? Are you coping with the treatments after the chemo? Any advice would be very much appreciated! I just need a glimmer of hope! I wish you all love and light on your individual journey and hope for us all x

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2022.

I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

You might also find it helpful to join and post in the main breast cancer group, as it's busier than this one, so you're more likely to connect with others who have a similar diagnosis.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
