Hi everyone,
I’m new here and just wanted to introduce myself. Recently diagnosed with grade 3 Invasive Ductal Cancer and HER2 positive. I’ve got 3 little ones at home (8,5 & 3) so it’s been a bit of an emotional rollercoaster to say the least but doing my best to remain positive.
Started on Paclitaxel beginning of June and took a severe reaction on my second cycle so changed over to the nab-paclitaxel and again took a reaction during my second treatment. Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks.
Hi Hope40
Welcome to the Online Community.
I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis of breast cancer. My own cancer was endometrial but I remember how scary it felt and it certainly can feel a bit of a roller coaster. Having a diagnosis at any age is difficult but I do understand that it must feel tough with having 3 young children at home. They can keep you busy at the best of times.
My chemo also involved paclitaxel and although I had side effects from it, I did not have a reaction. It must have felt scary and I know of other ladies who have been on here who have experienced similar. It is normally a case of reviewing the drugs used and finding an alternative. I am sorry to hear that you also reacted to the nab paclitaxel.
I am sure you will have a review before your next chemo cycle and will have a chance to discuss alternatives with your consultant. Sometimes it can mean changing doses or providing additional medication. Normally an alternative can be suggested.
I hope that you have plenty of support around you and I know from my own experience, this can really help. If at any point you feel like you need to talk things through with someone, then please do give the Support Line a call. They are there from 8am-8pm daily.
I wish you well with your next chemo and hope that they can prevent any further reaction. In the meantime we are here if you need us.

Hello Hope
I’m really sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I was diagnosed with Grade 2 invasive breast cancer — ER 8, PR 8, HER2 negative. Since I don’t have children, I was offered fertility preservation, which I completed before my surgery. Now, I’m preparing for my first chemotherapy session.
It’s already incredibly difficult to go through all of this alone, so I can only imagine how challenging it must be with three children relying on you. Wishing you all the strength and luck in the world. I truly hope everything goes as smoothly and gently as possible for all of us.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
