Hello..Not sure if this is the right place to post my worry.

I'm 40 years old and I've noticed an indent on the side of my left breast (outer side) its not like a dent more of a line, its about 3 inches long and very slightly indented, the skin around the line is soft and even but more noticable when I lift my arm although still slightly visible when arm is relaxed,if I move the skin around the line or stretch the skin the line completely disappears. I can not feel any lumps and have no swelling or redness/rashes and the breast still feels very soft and no hardened or thick skin.I phoned my gp and I had a nurse call me back and she said she will refer me to the breast clinic as they weren't seeing patients due to covid so I'm just waiting for my appointment but I am so scared, everywhere I look it says indent equals cancer. My sister had breast cancer when she was 34 but they think hers was because of receiving too much hormone treatment during her ivf treatment although can not be proved and she also tested negative to the breast cancer gene. I have had trouble in the past with my breasts and I had a scan 6 years ago as my breasts always felt achy and heavy but I was told the scan was clear but given my size (44dd) I had naturally lumpy breasts and possible fibrosis tissue so I'm hoping this is all that is but im not so sure. I'm also yet to find anyone that has had a "line" as opposed to a indent or what else can cause a line that isn't cancer so if anyone can help please let me know,im so scared of leaving my kids behind

  • Hi Pixie80 welcome to the forum. I am so sorry to hear how worried that you are.

You know and I know that having  any indent is one of the signs that they tell us to look out for but it doesn't sound like it is there all the time and there are no lumps or bumps that you can feel so I'm not sure what this could be and I wish I could offer you some definete

re-assurance but the Nurse has done exactly the right thing by referring you to the breast clinic as this is where you need to be seen by the experts and  find out what that is and put your mind at rest completely. Please STAY OFF GOOGLE it is not reliable nor specific enough to each of us as we are all different but it can cause you to be more scared than necessary and that's what you don't need right now.

I cant see you going anywhere or leaving kids behind but I do understand that fear and you will be frightened but we are all here and happy to help and listen as much as you need.

Sending some huge big hugs your way for now.xx

Thank you so much for the reply. I am so scared. My indent is there all the time but is more visible when my arm is raised. I keep saying indent but all the indents I have seen online are like a thumb print but mine is just like a long straight line but not a stretch mark..i do have them higher up on both breasts and this is not like them. I am now staying away from Google as I have probably exhausted every page and scared myself so bad. My husband has been amazing,we haven't told anyone as both members of our families have been fighting cancer and didn't want to worry them but I found out the day before Christmas eve so Christmas was so hard and the breast clinic are running 3 weeks behind and have been told to expect a call from them with an appointment next week. Just don't know what to think. Thanks again for the reply, its nice having someone to talk too xx
