Hi all
Trying to stay positive but probably feeling a bit lost at the same time if that makes sense?
I was given an urgent referral to the breast clinic after finding a dent and lump in my right breast. I had my appt last Thursday 21st Jan and was told after several mammograms, ultrasounds and biopsy and having the clip put in the tumour, I was told that it was almost definitely breast cancer. I go back on Tuesday 2nd for the results of the biopsy and to find out what the first steps of treatment.
I‘m ok but I think it’s just blown my brain that at 36 and having tested negative for the BRCA2 gene that I’m in this position.
Any advice on what to expect when I go back next Tuesday would be much appreciated.
Much love xx
Hi EM_Duck, so sorry you are here and in this position. The not knowing and waiting is really hard and the worst bit.
When you go back they should be able to definitely tell you whether it is or isn't cancer. Sometimes the first round of biopsies are inconclusive and they need to do more and then wait for those results.
With me I had a few mammograms, an ultrasound and five biopsies taken (in one session). Biopsies showed grade 2 cancer with some DCIS. Back for ultrasound to insert a titanium rod as a marker. Next was an MRI to see if it had spread to the other breast or to my chest but fortunately it hadn't. Then I went back for them to insert a magseed (helps guide surgeon to the right place). Next step was a sentinel node injection (helps surgeon when removing lymph nodes to check for spread) and then it was surgery for lumpectomy and removal of 4 nodes. Then finally pathology results come back which determine whether another operation is needed and whether you will need chemo.
Sounds like you are at the titanium rod step, but do bear in mind that it might be different for you as your surgeon will recommend the best path to follow to best treat you.
Try not to worry and remember that breast cancer is very treatable these days.
Wishing you all the best with your treatment plan.
Sending big hugs and good wishes xx
Hi GodWilling
That is so helpful, thank you! Yeah I’ve had the titanium rod step when they took the biopsies. I wen through this with my mum years ago, but I can’t for the life of me remember what the early appointments entailed.
I hope you’re ok? Are you still having treatment? Xx
Hi Em_Duck, sorry for the late reply I completely missed this.
How did your appointment go today, I hope your results were good.
I am waiting to be told when I start radiotherapy. It will be the 5 day intensive one. Hoping it's not too bad and I don't suffer too much with tiredness.
Let me know how you got on today.
xx
