Hi all

I'm 10 days into tamoxifen.

Has it made anyone else very emotional?

My days seem to have a pattern.

Wake 6am with nausea and anxiety, v upset. Like this till 2ish. Odd jaw pain and tired. I get bit dizzy and headache from 2 til 5 then can't get warm, or go too hot.

Take tamoxifen 7pm asleep by 9pm and starts again next day.

Can someone please tell me this passes.

I'm still grieving the loss of my mum in June, also had my coil out due to hormonal cancer.

Need something positive to cling on to or advise to help xx

  • Hi

I'm sorry to read how you're feeling since starting taking tamoxifen. I don't have any experience with this drug but noticed that your post hasn't had any responses yet.

I can see that you've also posted this question in the ask a nurse section of the community and I wondered if you'd seen that you'd had a reply. If not clicking here will take you straight there.

  • Hi. Im now 4yrs into tamoxifen.  I still get emotional moments, nausea and anxiety.  However my cancer is stable and ive had no new metastatic lesions in 3 yrs. So i think the pros outweigh the cons. I have tabkets to help with the anxiety and nausea. Keep going, it does get easier.

    Take care

  • Hi. I had hot flashes and I was very emotional when I started Tamoxifen. I said to my husband that I won't be able to take it for 10 years but in my case all calm down after 2 months more or less. Now I have really itchy skin on it and extremely dry eyes I think it's due to different brand that pharmacy gave me last time.. Don't give up and good luck

  • I was very emotional first few weeks then tat settled. Hope you will feel better soon. Take care x

  • Yes i get the hot flashes still. But i have a cooling towel.  Run it under the tap, wring it out so its damp, give it a shake then lay it over me so i can sleep.

I hope all is well with you.

    Hi,

I’ve been taking Tamoxifen for three years now.  When I first started taking it, it made me very emotional and ‘all over the place’. I felt unable to cope with anything and even had suicidal thoughts which were very scary.  I went to my GP and was prescribed an antidepressant, Citrolapram at the lowest dose of 10mg a day.  For me this has been brilliant, it means I can function.  I’m still on 10mg a day, and I still feel ok.

From my experience it can make a difference which brand you take.  I’ve been taking RelonChem and during lockdown wasn’t able to get it so had to change.  Oh my goodness, I felt ill, sick, no appetite and constipated.  My pharmacy has been brilliant and managed to get me back on RelonChem and I feel better now.  So if things don’t settle for you maybe a different brand would be better.

Tamoxifen can have a big impact on your life, I know lots of people are fine on it but I have had to change many things about mine.  I used to work full time in retail on the go all the time. I work part time now and can’t imagine working full time. So please don’t beat yourself up, it is a big thing for your body to adjust to.

    Hope this helps,

    Take care xx

Hi. Ive been on tamoxifen for nearly 2 years, and i still get the side effects. Insomnia. Hot flashes. Tiredness. Enotional. Body aches. List goes on.. i think everyones body responds differently. Some people dont even get side effects, or only have minor effects. And some unfortunately have it all!

    Hi

I too am 42 and have ducal invasive breast cancer. Had mastectomy in august. Awaiting radiotherapy which have planning for next week. Did not have chemo. Nodes negative. Started tamoxifen yesterday. Wondering how long it was before you felt symptoms.  Hoping we maybe be able to support each other? Hope things ease for you. Have you tried complimentary therapies especially acupuncture?
