Lymph node biopsy

Hello i am hoping that everyone is doing ok.

I was wondering is it a routine thing to do a biopsy of the lymph nodes under the arm that has the breast tumour in or would this only be done if something looked suspicious on the ultrasound?

  • Hi

I'm sorry I don't know the answer to your question but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet.

I hope you don't mind me suggesting that you also post this question in the main breast cancer group, which I can see you're a member of, as it's 'busier' than this one and I'm sure there'll be someone there who can help you.

I’m having a mastectomy on 15 April and they are doing a sentinel node biopsy at the same time

  • Hi, even if the scan shows that your lymph nodes are clear they do a biopsy on the day of the operation to make sure that there's no cancer cells under the microscope. They will also do a lymph node biopsy on me during my lumpectomy. X

  • Yes that is good they hve to do that to check everything, thankyou xx

Hi. I had a cancerous cyst removed in December ( at the time they still weren’t sure what it was )  and then lymph node biopsy once I got a diagnosis. For me it was just to see if it had spread anywhere ( which thank god it hasn’t ) but this is just my experience of having it done . Hope this is of some help x
