Hi lovely people in my phone :)

I am having WLE and SNB surgery on Thursday. Looking forward to it's eviction but starting to feel a little nervous...

Any tips, tricks, advice or experiences from people who have had this?

  • Hi

I had this surgery three years ago and it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected.

There can be a lot of waiting around before your surgery, unless you're lucky and you're first on the list, so my first tip would be to take something with you to do eg. book, puzzles, phone, etc

Take clothes that are easy to put on as when you are allowed to get dressed to go home you can be a bit wobbly.

Follow all the exercises they give you so that you get full movement back in the arm where the lymph nodes were removed.

Start going for gentle walks as soon as you feel up to it but avoid doing any lifting. I can't remember how long I was advised to not lift/carry anything heavy for but they'll tell you at the hospital.

    All the best for tomorrow

  • What latchbrook said Heart️

I found the snb scar more uncomfortable than my lumpectomy scar but it maybe depends on location. If you are given a cushion heart, it'll become your best friend

Front opening pj's we're a gift from a friend & i quickly bought more,  especially good in the early days when you're stiff. Good luck with your surgery but you'll be grand Heart️

  • Hi! How did your surgery go? Hope you’re recovering ok. I had the same 2 weeks ago and just wanted to see what the next few weeks looked like? Haha

  • Hi, it went absolutely fine thank you! Blush

I did develop a mild seroma, but it resolved itself and I had a bit of a frozen shoulder despite doing the exercises but I had surgery on that same side shoulder a few months before the BC op so I think it was a bit compromised anyway!

I was pretty much feeling totally normal by 4 weeks post op and was back at work, driving, doing all the childcare etc.

Headed for chemo next Cold sweat so hopefully that will go as smoothly as possible!

Best of luck with your recovery x
