BRCA 1 Variant of Uncertain Significance (VUS)

Hi Everyone,

After breast cancer I was gene tested and my result was BRCA 1 positive but  with a  Variant of Uncertain Significance (VUS.) My oncologist has told me that a second mastectomy isn't advised/necessary for now and to keep up with genetic testing updates. My gynacoogist has recommended a hysterectomy and ovary removal because a womb fibroid, I have already had removed twice, has doubled in size over the past nine months.

Just wondering if anyone is in the same boat and your experience?

  • Hello

I am Brian, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community. I have just noticed your post has gone unanswered. I can't answer it myself as I have a different cancer, however by me replying you post will be "bumped up" to the top of the page and I hope seen and answered by other members of the BRACA positive group.

Have you considered posting this question in the breast cancer group?

I wish you well moving forward.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Stumbled upon this older thread and figured I'd add my thoughts. It's essential to weigh your options with your medical team, but also connecting with others facing similar challenges can be incredibly comforting. Have you considered any support groups or personal stories that helped you make tough decisions? Sharing experiences can be empowering, especially with the community backing you.
