Hi I’m BRCA2 positive and I’m going into hospital on the 18th October to have my womb, cervix, fallopian tubes and ovaries removed by keyhole surgery. Having my womb and cervix removed won’t lower my chances of having ovarian cancer but I just want them removed too as I’m having surgery and removing it all will lower my risk in general of having any gynaecological cancers. I am so very concerned about getting cancer as my sister was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer in 2022 and has been in remission but it has now recurred. I hope everything goes ok. I hate the fact that I’m feeling well but need to have surgery. I suffer with fibromyalgia and I am very concerned that the pain is going to be severe as I had my gallbladder removed about 20 years ago and that was keyhole surgery too but I was in agony. Any anyone else had this surgery and choose to have a total hysterectomy as well as a bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy? Any responses would be great. Thanks.
Hi. I’m also brca2. I didn’t have full hysterectomy but did have laparoscopic tubes and ovaries removed last year. I’m sure you will be absolutely fine. The worst part for me was the pain from the gas which came on after changing position the first night - top tip, sleep with as many pillows as you can!
Its such a hard decision when you’re perfectly healthy to have surgery like that but I think it’s the right thing to do as far as gynae cancer as there really is no other way to fully protect yourself.
I hope your sister is ok and good luck!
