So, I have always struggled with my weight, I know exactly why and I know where my black and white views come from, problem is I can't snap out of it and I need to.
Being BRCA1 positive I have to lose a minimum of 25kg, probably more now. I can't do it. I'm getting myself unbelievably stressed out because I need to but I just can't stick to it.
I stick to it for a period and then crash, the crash far out weighs the periods of sticking to it. Diet is all about balance but I have a very black and white mindset and I am driving myself crazy!
Is there anyone out there who has been in this position, is weight loss surgery an option? Help!!!!
Hi Shinynails and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm not a member of this forum but noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.
While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Hi Shinynails - I am PALB2 positive and been told i need to lose weight for risk reducing surgery. Weight and eating has been an ‘interesting’ area for me since I was a kid.
My friends at work are part of a coaching programme through a local gym. It has helped so far although now I’m a few months in it is harder. When you say ‘black and white’ thinking is that similar to ‘all or nothing’? I used to be similar I think in my approach to eating etc.
I think what is helping me on the programme is accountability. But logging everything on MyFitnessPal is driving me a bit nuts - it’s tiring!
Hope you are doing ok. Take care
