Worried about symptoms

Hi,

I have the BRCA1 gene and had a preventative mastectomy 3 years ago. I'm 35 and have decided to wait for my next surgery until I'm 40 as I don't think myself or my family are ready for the menopause yet.

But over the last few months I have noticed a few things that are really starting to bother me. I keep having pains in my lower abdomen, I'm generally uncomfortable in myself, I have noticed that I'm not finishing my dinner everyday and I'm so tired all the time. The most recent change is today - I feel dizzy. Even sitting down, the room is spinning. I feel like my head is bobbing around and I need to hold it still to stop everything from moving. I've also been getting random strange headaches. They come on so suddenly and make me feel sick and really ill. They can last for an hour or a few days.

I know I need to go to the doctors, but I've just changed surgeries and I'm worried that my new GP won't understand my full history. I've booked a telephone appointment for tomorrow but I have a feeling that I'm just going to get fobbed off.

Has anyone else experienced any of this before? And what happened?

  • Hi Hevski13 welcome to the forum and so sorry to hear about how worried that you are.

Your post threw up some questions for me and I wanted to put them to you and hope that's ok?

    • Have you experience of this new GP when you think they will fob you off or is it just because its a new GP and you feel strange with another GP who maybe doesn't know you as well./ Any GP worth their salt should be listening to you and trying to offer any re-asurance that they can. However, these symptoms may not be due to any sinister reason and could have a less sinister cause so that's a possibility and hopefully that's the case for you.
    • Don't let them fob you off if you don't feel ok about what they are saying  to you its ok to say I'm not happy with that. After all you have been through the mill with all that's happened for you and you alone know your body better than anyone else so don't forget that.
    • Please do come back and let us know how you get on and what the doc thinks.
    • Sending very best wishes for now. xxx

Hi, the only experience I have had with my new GP is going for a smear test with the nurse a few weeks ago. Lets just say the the whole thing could have been better handled, she had the personality of a drowning cat.

I did manage to get a telephone appt earlier today though. I've been told I've got to have a blood test and go in to see the dr for a face to face appt. It's what I expected and they said I need to do it quick, but the earliest slots they had were 23rd Nov.

So I supposed I'll just have to wait until then and see what they say.

    Thanks for your reply
