Bereavement Counselling

Hi

i have been offered 10 sessions of bereavement counselling from 4th August through the hospice that supported us through my husbands last days.  Has anyone else been? I am unsure what to expect.  I had a counsellor when Grant was diagnosed as I was very anxious at the time and it was all a big shock.  Obviously his passing was hard but it was not traumatic and not unexpected I was more exhausted and heartbroken when he died so much different feelings to his diagnosis.  I am going to see how it goes I am not sure how much I need it, I feel that I am grieving well if there is such a thing - I don’t avoid it or feel depressed although I do take meds I obviously miss him terribly and have days where I feel it’s unfair but I am determined to live my life for him.  I am worried it will make things worse if you know what i mean.

  • I've joined the widowed collective too.  I like the whatsapp group.  It's kind of comforting to know someone is there. Just for a chat about anything.

I've not found any meet ups in my area but might try the zoom at some point.  Not sure if I'm brave enough yet.

    1. I did join The Widows collective m.But it didnt seem as if  it would be my cup of tea. Is it the one where it shows a group of Women and one man chatting and laughing and walking together ? I feel like such a miserable person now. Have I been like this a long time ...serious. ? It was not much fun during the last few years with my Husband. Watching him suffer so much. And unable to do much to help ease his pain. It feels like we wasted so much time.Sorry I digress. .Have you found the bereavement counselling helpful at all ?  And did you get anything from the Widows collective ?  I hope your eyes are better or at least improved. I wonder do the people who run these groups think 6 weeks is enough to help us cope? It really isn't . And after I had the sessions with Cruse I felt like I  was left in limbo. Just felt a slight improvement after talking with such a lovely Lady  and then Boom ..nothing when it ended. I really don't know what the answer is ,except it's something we have to work through and learn how to live with grief.
  • Hi. The Widowed collective does show an image of people laughing or smiling but sitting down along a bench.

It wont be for everyone but on the whatsapp groups, there are regional ones, so you have a better chance of finding others near you. The downside is that it can be busy and fast moving so sometimes i just dont check in for a few days. There are several groups so you choose the ones you want to join.

My eye is much better thankyou but the hospital havent signed me off yet and will monitor for a few more monhhs.

The counselling, I have my 2nd ession tomorrow. 6 weeks isnt long but I suppose the hospices have to stretch their funds a really long way. I waited at least 3 months for it.

    1. Yes, I thought it was that one. I know it sounds strange ,but just seeing them laughing and enjoying themselves put me off. I feel such a misery these days. I do lose myself sometimes when talking to a neighbour  or a Lady I see in the Park about everyday stuff and  ,sometimes I can forget my loss just for a moment. But it doesn't last long. On tare occasions I hear myself sort of laugh. But it's not a proper laugh like I used to easily. I'm glad your eyes are better . And the mole is nothing to worry about hopefully. The weeks / sessions fly by . And just as you feel you might be getting some benefit from talking to someone neutral it's done. Then what ? .   I'm just trying to keep myself busy improving the house. And still slogging away at the back where I want to make a garden. and put some grass down for the dogs.  And put the plants in I have hanging around when the borders are ready. I wish I could get all the roots out from next doors Damned tree. I'm on the last big one hopefully, which is proving a challenge to cut in to with a axe. And when it gets too hot outside I go out some more wallpaper on the walls in the guest bedroom. I hope everyone is coping the best they can. Cx
