I was wondering if anyone else has noticed their own health declining since the passing of a loved one from cancer
I cared for my mother for 3 years of her treatment. The stress caused me to develop epilepsy and I recently had a mini stroke which I'm now largely recovered from.
The dwp have spent nearly two years auditing mum's benefits (she only got the state pension and attendance allowance) and I'm sure the stress has contributed to my own health getting worse
Any thoughts would be welcome
Hi Barneythedog
I am sorry to hear that your mother passed away from cancer. My own mother passed away from cancer many years ago now and I remember it being a difficult time.
Caring for your mother for 3 years was a huge thing to do and I know that caring, whilst doing your normal everyday things can be really challenging.
I did find that my own health was affected both at the time and then for the next couple of years. This was both emotionally and physically. I was able to carry on at work and being a Mum but I was constantly tired, emotional and run down. I seemed to pick up every bug going around.
It is very understandable that the stress, physical challenges and emotions have an impact on our own health. To have the extra pressure of the DWP must have been very challenging at what is already a difficult time.
I found in time that things did improve health wise. I found Home - Cruse Bereavement Support. I found that when I started to work through my grief and begun to process everything it did help.
if it would help to talk things through, please do give the Support Line a call. They could also have a look to see if there is any support in your local area that may be of help.
I hope that you continue to recover from your mini stroke and that things start to become a bit more easier for you. In the meantime, we are here if you need us.

Hi.
Thank you for your kind words and advice.
My employer has an employee assist scheme in place and I have spoken to them. They have kindly arranged for me to have some sessions with them.
That sounds positive- I hope that it helps. Do let us know if there is anything that we can do to support you.
