I would like to share my personal story to help others and raise awareness. My mum unfortunately lost her life to breast cancer 6 years ago. She was first diagnosed in 2013. My mum started off with chemotherapy then when came back went on to have gamma knife surgery plus chemotherapy drugs.
When my mum first realised there was something wrong, was her breast hurting a bit no other symptoms. The second time she was dizzy and throwing up. These are not noticeable symptoms like what tickled pink are saying. This is the first awareness I want to raise is about looking out for any symptoms and getting them checked out. Even back then hospital staff said it was vertigo. There needs to be more awareness around this.
I know now many people get to have the option of surgery, back then my mum asked but was refused. If you get this chance please get the surgery and spread this onto others.
In general there needs to be more awareness around listening to patients and family. They live with that person so know more. I do feel if my mum and family was listened to we would not be in this position. I feel money was the factor in this plus professionals not acting right. From my story I want people to get more than one opinion, get checked out if anything feels slightly off and to fight anyone to get the care needed. I have been through lots and am still fighting it all, I do not want anyone else to be in this situation. I am hoping this post will be the start. I can carry my mums legacy on to help others. Thank you.
