Hi,

I’ve lost my elder sister on the 8th of May this year. She was only 41 years old. She was diagnosed with ovarian Cancer stage 3 in September 2023. She reached stage 4 this February. The doctors said it was her last time and she fought till her last.
She lived in Bangladesh with my other family members. I visited her and managed to spend the last 8 days with her when she was in hospital. It was so traumatising to witness her all deteriorating condition. We felt so helpless. She passed away in front of me.Those days, those moments are coming to me as flashbacks every day.
She fought with all her pain and sufferings so bravely but still we couldn’t stop her leaving. I feel the vacuum every day. Every night I see her in my dream. I wish I could have spent more time with her.

Since she was diagnosed with the cancer she wanted to spend more time with us, the siblings. It was very hard to come back to the UK after visiting her.

I miss her a lot. Being far away from her made the journey more difficult and I feel guilty, thinking I wish I could spend more time with her. She was single, used to leave with my mom & other sister. She was the main bread earner as Dad died 10years ago.

Her memories are what we have now. Please tell me what makes it easy to go through the grieving?

thank you

  • Hi

Sorry to hear about your sister and also your dad. Grieving is something that can be very personal and perhaps one way of looking at it is by just acknowleging that this a time to feel the sadness. When I atteneded a friends funeral recently something that really struck me was when we were told that grief is the price we pay for love.

There are a couple fo specialist charities here that can be helpful whenever you are ready - Cruse bereavment care and the loss foundation, though of course you are always welcome to post on here too.

    Take care

    <<hugs>>
