Anticipatory grief

Hi there. I’m knew to this forum. I searched google in a state trying to find someone/ something just to write on with the hope I may/may not get a reply. At this precise moment in time I don’t mind either way. You see my darling Father in Law is in his final hours of life. I heard the death rattle over FaceTime as my Mother in law held the phone next to his ear. She said his eyes flickered when I told him how much I love him and his 4 granddaughters said the same but I wonder if it’s she who is trying to prop us up right now. My husband is there and my brother in law.  I had hoped that I could get up there too ( geography!)  so he could just hear me say what I wanted to say whilst I hold his hand. My eldest daughter didn’t make it up either and she is/was his everything- first grandchild etc etc. I’m just lost in this moment.

  • Hi Wonderland

Welcome to the Online Community. I am glad that you have found us.

I am really sorry to hear about your father in law and I understand what a difficult time this is for you all. At times like this is can indeed feel like you are lost in the moment. It sounds like you are a very close family and there is a lot of love there for your father in law. Please try to take some comfort that he is surrounded by that love.

I hope that the end is peaceful for him. We are here for you whenever you need us.

If you need or want to talk to someone then we do have the Support Line available from 8am in the morning.

    Jane

  • Thank you for your kind message Jane. Myself and 2 of my daughters spoke to him last night over FaceTime. I wanted to make sure that he heard our voices.  He passed at 0230 this morning. I’d like to believe he waited to hear our voices and was hanging on before going. All very emotional now.

  • I am sorry for your loss.

Please do get in touch if we can offer you support in anyway.
