Hello I lost my dad in 2023 to lung cancer and my mum is now rapidly suffering from stomach and osophagael cancer and she’s so weak she needs assistance my nan is the one caring for her but she is 86 and it’s not fair on her I live 2 hours away I’m really struggling in knowing what to do feel so helpless I remember with my dad he would have macmillan people come round and nurses aswell who could keep us the family up to date with what’s going on , with my mum there’s no support no one is there to tell us what’s going on I’m having to get it out of my mum and she is very reluctant to tell us the whole thing I think she needs a carer of some sort but I don’t know how to go about it is it nhs private is she entitled to any help I just need someone to take control of this situation

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m so sorry to read that you lost your dad to lung cancer recently so I can totally understand why you're so worried about your mum.

As you know, the online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the family and friends group as you'll then connect directly with others who have been or are in the same situation as you and your mum.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your mum's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
