I’ve been told there is an 18 month waiting list for 1 to 1 counselling. I’ve been offered a group bereavement course. Has anyone experience of a group meeting?

  • Hello

i am Brian one of the Community Champions here at Macmillan. I have just noticed your post has gone unanswered, however I can't answer it myself, however by me replying it will be "bumped up" to the top of the group. There I hope it will be seen and replied to by other members of the group.

May I suggest calling our Support Line on 0808 808 00 00 (8am to 8pm 7 days a week) to see if they can access any 1-1 counselling for you?

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi Lillipad

I am sorry that you have been told that there is an 18 month waiting list for 1 to 1 counselling.

I have not personally done a group bereavement course but it may well be worth looking into and trying to see if it helps in the meantime.

I had help from Cruse and it may be worth contacting them to see whether they can offer support.

If you are able to give the Macmillan Support Line a call they will be able to have a look to see what support is available in your area. Some people find Maggies Centres are a great support. Am not sure whether there is one near you.

I have also recently completed the Macmillan HOPE course online and although it is not specifically for bereavement there may well be aspects of it that you would find helpful. It is online and you can dip in and out of it as you want. It helped me process the whole cancer journey and I can recommend having a look.

  • Thanks for your reply. I phoned the support line and they suggested I phone Marie Curie helpline. I have now made contact with Cruse who are calling me back on Thursday for a phone assessment.
