Hi I am new to this group and don’t normally reach out in this way.

my mum was diagnosed with strange 4 lung cancer 9 months ago. She was placed on table treatment, that seemed to have stopped the cancer in its tracks. We received news 2 days ago that it has stopped working and now spread more and become aggressive. Doctors want to move quickly and start Chemo this week, however they are keeping her in the hospital for a week during this. The nurse said it is unusual that they keep people in like this, it have filled me full of fear that they are expecting her to die. My mum is only young and so strong. She is still getting around and doing day to day things.

we are all scared that the treatment will have a bad reaction and be fatal. We have been told with our the treatment she only has 2 months, but with the treatment it could half half that…. I don’t understand how she has gone from being stable to 2 months left..

has anyone else had this happen I’m so scared and don’t know what to do. X

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m sorry to read that your mum's current treatment for lung cancer has stopped working and her doctors are now giving her different treatment.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the lung cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions and share experiences around treatment for this type of cancer, and also the family and friends group which is a supportive place to discuss your worries and emotions.

To join, just click on the links I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your mum's diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
