my brother was diagnosed and had a stage 2 melanoma removed ,he then had two half years of follow ups ,he had no scans no ,blood test just his lymph nodes checked every 3 months ,always told all clear he then had a seizure was scanned told he had terminal cancer, died 3 months later,it all came as a shock ,just wondering if any one else has had a similar experience.
Hi
I'm very sorry to hear about the recent loss of your brother.
I too was diagnosed with Stage 2 melanoma just over 3 years ago now. Like your brother I have 3 monthly check-ups which involve the consultant checking my skin and lymph nodes.
Stage 2 melanoma patients don't have scans and there's currently no blood test that I'm aware of that can be used to detect melanoma. I hope that my experience with check-ups will reassure you that the follow-up care your brother received is the current NICE guidelines.
I notice that you also posted a question in ask a nurse a few months ago and wondered if you'd seen her response. If not clicking here will take you directly to it.
If you type 'melanoma' into the search bar in this group you'll see that there are a few posts which mention it and you could have a look at these and see if there are any others with the same circumstances as your brother. I hope you'll understand why I haven't gone and looked at them in detail myself.
Sending a supportive ((hug))
